I took part in the first round of the Modern She Made Swap - it was my first real swap and I wanted to make something really good. It really made me think outside the box and I got some great feedback from the girls on Flickr, so when the second round was announced, I was in.
I've got my partner and I've picked place mats from the list of things she asked for. It took me a bit of thinking to get to this idea. The plan is four placemats which when put together create a star which can be used as a table centre. To make each a rectangle rather than a square I've added a panel to the side for embroidery/applique.
I've completed the embroidery and applique on the first two, and I've just started work on the next embroidery.
Once I've finished them, I hope to post a tutorial on my blog - when that happens, I'll pop a link on this page too!
So they are finished. Due to some fairly appalling mathematics when calculating the strips for the back of the place mats, I had loads of leftovers. I made four coasters and a little basket (using Ayumi's tutorial - http://ayumills.blogspot.co.uk/2008/05/tutorial-fabric-basket.html ). The basket was so straightforward to make - I think it would look great in Christmassy fabrics filled with sweets!
